Control Room Operator
The Rend Lake Conservancy District is accepting applications for the position of Control Room Operator at the InterCity Water Department.
General Statement of Work:
Under supervision of the Water Superintendent, operate the water plant and distribution control system and assist the laboratory operator.
Duties:
- Monitor control system and maintain proper pressure.
- Start and stop pumps in the distribution system as needed to maintain adequate tank levels and flows.
- Adjust ground storage tanks in the system to maintain adequate levels and flows.
- Record all readings and settings every hour onto Control Room Log, noting any changes in operations.
- Double check all settings made by the lab operator and maintain them.
- Address all alarms for the reason it occurred and inform the superintendent if needed.
- Inform the lab operator of all in plant alarms.
- Monitor the security system, informing the lab operator of any problems. If breech in security occurs, call water superintendent and 911 if needed.
- Answer entrance gate call boxes, making sure all entries are properly identified before opening the gate. Inform water superintendent or proper personnel of entry.
- Answer all telephone calls, logging them in on the proper form, and transferring the call to the person they asked for. If that person is not available, take a detailed message and call back number. Employee home or cell phone numbers are not to be given out.
- Communicate on intercom system in the plant, by radio system to mobile units, or via cell phone to personnel in the field.
- Take all J.U.L.I.E. printouts and inform the proper personnel or water superintendent. Call back and clear the J.U.L.I.E.’s where we have no water lines in the area.
- Assist the lab operator with anything he needs in the plant, or in any emergency, being sure to follow proper procedures and safety rules.
- Immediately inform the superintendent of any significant changes in plant or distribution system.
- Work shift work as assigned, including weekends and holidays, and fill whenever necessary. Be prepared to work a double shift if needed.
- Perform any other job related duties as required.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school education
- Obtain and maintain a Class C or Class D Water license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Working knowledge of in-plant and water distribution system operations.
- Ability to understand and implement verbal and written communications and instructions.
- Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to work well with others is mandatory.
- An understanding of the need and agreement to work weekends and holidays as required.
- Ability to utilize computer SCADA system for water plant and distribution system operation.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Minimal physical activity is required.
- Must be physically and mentally able to thoroughly complete the required tasks in a timely and competent manner.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Union Scale: $26.47 – $31.14

ASSISTANT GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
The Rend Lake Conservancy District is accepting applications for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. This position is a great opportunity for someone who is highly motivated and experienced, and who can replace the current Golf Course Superintendent who expects to retire in the next 2-3 years. In order to achieve a seamless continuity of operations, the current superintendent will help mentor and prepare the Assistant Superintendent to transition into a higher leadership role. To achieve this goal, the Assistant Superintendent works collaboratively with the entire golf team and assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance, operation, and management of a 27-hole golf course. This person will also help set maintenance standards to ensure that playing conditions and customer experience expectations are met while also being commensurate with a golf resort experience. This is a full-time exempt position.
Duties:
- Assists the Golf Course Superintendent with the responsibility of managing and maintaining properties, which may include:
- Golf course and practice area
- Maintenance equipment
- Clubhouse grounds and landscaping
- Manage all areas of the golf course in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Apply golf course chemicals when needed.
- Mow greens, fairways, and other areas when needed.
- Works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent with preparation of the annual budget for the maintenance and capital improvements of club properties.
- Approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures to ensure operating and capital expenses remain within the approved budgets.
- Works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to keep accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
- Assists the Golf Course Superintendent with planning all maintenance and project work, applying his/her agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the club’s maintenance standards and long-range goals.
- Assists the Golf Course Superintendent with overseeing scheduling of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work, including part-time and union staff.
- Keeps all buildings and equipment well maintained.
- Assists the Golf Course Superintendent with frequent inspections of the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
- Ensures cleanliness of all facilities under their control.
- Manages safety to strive for zero accidents.
- Performs other duties as required.
Desirable Training and Experience:
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Past experience managing and operating a golf course maintenance department when needed without supervision.
- 3+ years of golf course maintenance experience.
- 2-3 years of management experience.
- 2-3 years of pesticide, fungicide, and herbicide management experience.
- 2-3 years of fertilizer management experience.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and repair.
- Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Completion of post-secondary education (certificate, associate’s or bachelor’s degree) with an emphasis on turf management, horticulture, or related field.
- Possession of an “Illinois Pesticide Applicator’s License”
- Experience in managing budget expenses.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.

- Moderate physical activity. May require some heavy physical work; lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects in excess of 50 pounds.
- Must be physically and mentally able to thoroughly complete the required tasks, in a timely and competent manner.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Seasonal peaks in golf play results in long hours during peak months (April – September).
Benefits:
- Salary Range: $50,000 – $70,000 based on qualifications and experience.
